January 14, 2010 Leave a comment

Teddy Pendergrass passed away today at the age of 59 following difficulties recovering from his colon cancer surgery…R.I.P a soul legend.

BBC News:

Teddy Pendergrass II said his father had died at a hospital in Philadelphia.

He was paralysed from the waist down in a 1982 car accident. In 2001, he went on his first tour since the accident.

Pendergrass enjoyed early success with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, whose hits included If You Don’t Know Me By Now, before going solo in 1976.

He was the first black male singer to record five consecutive multi-platinum albums in the US.

Pendergrass, who has used a wheelchair since his accident, made a return to live performance at the Live Aid concert in Philadelphia in July 1985.

Bun B Freestyles [Inc Transform Ya, 4 My Town, etc]

January 13, 2010 Leave a comment

Mr Freeman aka Bun B has been dropping some mad freestyles over popular beats to promote his soon to be released album ‘Trill OG’, which is due for release in the states in April.

The latest freestyle is over Chris Brown’s ‘Transform Ya’, which I gotta say is hot but I still prefer Weezy’s bars.

Download: Bun B: Transform Ya [Freestyle] (props to MissInfo for the link)

Also the past ones include:

Bun B: On To The Next One (props: NahRight)

Bun B: Im On The Block (props: UHTN)

Snoop Dogg Ft. Jay-Z – I Wanna Rock [The Kings G-Mix]

January 13, 2010 Leave a comment

Snoop Dogg’s gets hold of Jay-Z for the remix of his single ‘I Wanna Rock’. So many people have jumped on this beat since it dropped, but this is the one thats doing the rounds at the moment.

Did Jay-Z really drop this lyric…‘Its no Biggie, I’m just the king now’.

He’s made a bigger commercial impact than anyone in Hip Hop in the last 10 years, but saying he’s better then Biggie….nah, especially not after a mediocre verse like that.

On a side note: Thats a sick jacket Jay-Z is rocking in the image above.

Kano [Times Article]

January 12, 2010 Leave a comment

Kano recently dropped the video for his single ‘More Than One Way’. Nobody can deny that its a positive single and that Kano’s highlighting a number of alternatives to typical ghetto get rich quick lifestyles. See video below…

Off the back of this, he then, with the support of Ed Balls (The Schools Secretary), went and made this small advert highlighting diploma’s.

Then, off the back of that, Jack Grimston from the Times writes this article. Entitle ‘Fould-mouthed rapper Kano helps Ed Balls promote school diplomas’.

I feel unable to understand how this makes any sense? Kano does something positive – yet get slated by Jack Grimston.

Looking at this tool’s other articles, I see nothing positive, encouraging or uplifting young people further into education – so what gives him the right to go off on one at Kano?

Who else is going to reach these youts in the street. Ed Balls – NO, Jack Grimston – NO, Gordon Brown – NO. How about someone young and ‘hip’ like David Cameron? or maybe even David Miliband?…….No I thought not.

I still feel this guy is the UK’s best export. His flow, delivery, originality – everything is on point. Hopefully in 2010 he can make some moves.

/End Rant.
